Hello!

I’m Jason, an aspiring creative from Manila. For 15 years, I have been an editor and writer for a B2B company based in Asia. I started writing professionally at age 19 as a student correspondent for Philippine Daily Inquirer and have since been a contributing writer for local and international publications.

Since the pandemic, I’ve thought about my relationship with social media, and I write about this at length in my first post. If I am going to remain to have an online presence, I no longer wish to participate in the warring factions between us and them, posting quips, hot takes, and memes. I recognize these all have a function in the ongoing culture wars for which I am not skillfully and mentally equipped in the first place. I’ve also learned that the root problems of disinformation and misinformation go beyond online prolificness and the speed by which the social media ecosystem is gamed. There is work to do outside it but nevertheless, if I am going to remain here, I will strive to be thoughtful and kind. I will strive to write.

There are other things delightful online, which I aim to share here. My interests are in pop culture, social media, writing, and long-form journalism. I also hope to share what goes on in my little pocket of the world here in Manila, whether it’s the chaotic city streets or my head.

I am not starting a cultural shift but joining one. I’ve subscribed to a few other writers here in Substack who have spoken about or shared this same philosophy and I look forward to discovering others. I invite you to re-examine your own relationship with social media and if what I’ve written realigns with your own feelings, I hope we can be on this journey together. Start to write or if you have your own newsletter, let me know.

Glad you made it to the end! If you liked what you read, subscribe for free to support my work.
